This is a drawing I did of my late grandfather. It’s from a very poor Polaroid, which I recreated as a newsprint style half-tone image using a Rotring pen on graph paper – my grandfather’s work tools. He was a civil engineer and, amongst many big projects designed and built the Ladybower Reservoir which was used by Barnes Wallis to test the bouncing bomb. King George and Queen Elizabeth came to meet him at the opening.
This drawing was quite a test: working in permanent ink allows you no room for any error. I got through seven A1 sheets of paper before getting it right.
